Mai Mai Miracle

Alternate Name: マイマイ新子と千年の魔法 (Maimai Shinko to Sen nen no Maho) (Mai Mai Shinko and the Millennium-Old Magic) Director:  Sunao Katabuchi Year: 2009 Trailer: In 1955 Yamaguchi Prefecture, a third grade girl, Shinko Aoki imagines what her town would've been like a thousand years ago. So Shinko believes her Mai Mai is the power of her imagination. A new student transfers from Tokyo to Shinko's school and latter become friends. Kiiko Shimazu is a timid girl who's morning over her mother's death. Shinko takes Kiiko on her imaginary trip to the province of Suo. Will the two girls be able to learn from each other or will Kiiko push Shinko away? I found it a little hard to follow the two stories at times. Rating: ☆☆☆☆             See it

Magic Tree House

Alternate Name: マジック・ツリーハウス (Majiku Tsurihausu) Director: Hiroshi Nishikiori Year: 2011 Trailer: Two unique siblings take an adventure, but you ask why are they unique? Jack, is the older brother to Annie, who is a bookworm. Annie, on the other hand is an outgoing and brave girl. Do I need to say more? Returning Annie's new pet frog back in the forest they stumble across a wooden tree house. Inside are books more than the eye can see in a tree house...that is. Coming across a book that holds four medallions along with clues for each one. Will Jack and Annie decode each hint and get all four medallions? While I may not have read the books, the film did a pretty good job on telling the story. However, I did wish they explained a little more on some scenes. They apparently fade to black leaving the viewer clueless or possibly underwhelmed. Rating: ☆☆☆☆             See it

Scryed Alteration II Quan

Alternate Name: スクライドオルタレイション QUAN (Sukuraido Orutareishon QUAN) Director: Goro Taniguchi Year: 2012 Trailer:                          Kyouji Mujou, being sent by the Mainland to the Lost Ground to triumph the parallel universe for the economic gain. He becomes head of the Lost Ground govenment and absorbing crystal material to his formidable Alter power. Doing this Kazuma and Ryuhou attack Mujou to exert the Lost Ground control. Will Kazuma and Ryuhou still be able to work out their differences or will they still be bitter with each other? The continuation of "Scryed Alteration I: Tao" this film clears up a few questions to this film, but I still found it a little boring. Rating: ☆☆☆             Rent it
